Choosing Theme For Your House Design

INTRODUCTION

Hardly do we realize that our home is a true reflection of our personality. It is the one thing that we hold it close to our hearts and cherish all our life. The way we live, the way we style our spaces is a portrayal of our psyche. Nothing can beat the serene feeling of a home producing positive vibes.

Often we are influenced by the styles in magazines or the ones that are easy to incorporate. And, with a bit of effort, you can get a home that defines you as a person.

Not as easy as it looks? Still, got millions of thoughts running through your head? We understand how challenging it can be, that is why we have put up some of the most popular styles, so you can see which one suits you best!

DESIGN STYLES

A few design styles that we would like to introduce are:

CONTEMPORARY DESIGN STYLE AND HOW TO MASTER IT

WHAT IS A CONTEMPORARY DESIGN?

Contemporary is simply a style that’s trendy at that particular moment. It dates back to the ’70s, borrowing elements from other design styles.

It is calming and serene, peppered with a focus on detailed attention to bold scales, and a concise color palette to create a warm space with sophistication. Contemporary has a perfect balance of simplicity, textures, and drama.

Contemporary styles of today have neutral palettes, curved lines, and prominent minimalism. Negative spaces are as important as furniture and accessories.

HOW TO BLEND IN WITH THE INTERIOR

Contemporary interior design is unique and effortless. It can be simple flooring with a classic wooden floor and source rugs that are simple in pattern and carpets that feature a low pile with geometric shapes, and simple source lighting soothingly highlighting the features of the contemporary style.

Materials used can be a mix of metal, stone, and opaque or clear glass.

Structural elements like exposed brick walls and pipes for added character in an otherwise simple room showcases the style perfectly.

CONTEMPORARY STYLE COLORS

Neutrals along with grey, black, and white, are the go-to colors of the design style. Neutral tone with hints of color is a base for expressive artworks and objects with a personality that you can easily switch around depending on your mood.

If the walls and windows are painted in pastels, the trims should be neutral. If a wall is a bright, bold color, neutrals should be used everywhere else.

CONTEMPORARY STYLE FURNITURE AND TEXTILES

In contemporary design, less is always more. Select furnishings that are conversation starters while remaining low, with smooth, clean, geometric silhouettes and straight lines.

Use neutrals in textured natural fabrications like wool, cotton, linen, silk, and jute, and bring in pops of color.

As contemporary style calls for clean lines and simplicity, textiles can help you avoid a cold contemporary style home by bringing in plays on texture, pattern, and color combinations.

CONTEMPORARY STYLE LIGHTING AND ACCESSORIES

Though furnishings call for a minimal approach, decorative accessories are where you can get creative. Sometimes the best contemporary interior design approaches rely on the extras you bring into a room.

For contemporary ideas, go for small elements that’ll add depth and personality to a room.

Track lighting and recessed lighting help wash a wall in light. Spotlights can be used to draw the eye to the pieces you want to focus on.

But don’t clutter contemporary-style rooms with collections because open space is as important as the pieces you put in the space.

CLASSICAL DESIGN STYLE

WHAT IS CLASSICAL DESIGN?

A classic interior is a symphony of symmetry, balance, and order. Rooms following a classic design style are well-considered and often composed around a central focal piece. This could be a fireplace featuring an ornate mirror above, or a grand dining table with feature chairs at either end.

The color palette of a classic interior is usually inspired by nature. Tones of yellow, blue, green, and browns are common. Softer tones like grey, terracotta, pinks and off white also feature. Natural timbers, stone, and marble are the key finishes in a classic interior, and fabrics tend to be elegant.

THE TWO CLASSICAL DESIGN STYLES

ELEMENTS OF NEOCLASSICAL AND COLONIAL DESIGN

NEOCLASSICAL STYLE

Colors: include mild colors like white, cream, grey, bluegreen, and other muted hues. Black, red, silver, and gold may be used as accent colors.

Furniture: Characterized by simple and symmetrical furniture, it typically has exposed wood or metal structure providing an outline of the shape. Upholstery is typically high-end and luxurious without being gaudy.

Decorative MotifsFloral motifs are common, especially in pillows, rugs, and wall designs. Urns, jugs, and statues are common decorations.

COLONIAL STYLE

Furniture: Formal furniture in dark mahogany wood with solid white upholstery is a style statement. The campaign furniture style where furniture can be made to break down or fold for the ease of moving was an acclaimed beauty.

Fabrics: Many fabrics were solid white linen or cotton. Some used botanical prints and animal prints as accent fabrics.

Accessories: This style is known for showing off quality home furnishings. Fine crystal, fine china, silver items, Asian blue, and white porcelain can add the colonial charm to space but, keep in mind to not go overboard with it.

Plants: Indoor plants like a potted palm tree and some exotic looking flowers in the living areas are a forte of this style and give the space a very exotic look.

FUTURISTIC DESIGN

WHAT IS FUTURISTIC DESIGN?

Earlier 20th-century architecture is characterized by strong chromaticism, long dynamic lines, suggesting speed, motion, urgency, and lyricism is popularly known as the futuristic design. They are the styles of the next generation, which are not yet fully established but hold a lot of scopes.

The key elements of futuristic design are angle and space. It is also associated with edgy, angular, modern and minimalistic

LIGHT IT UP

Lighting up your space smartly is one of the most defining elements. LED’s and artificial light is preferred over natural. Small spaces like false ceilings, bedsides, stairs, and walls are lit up for laying emphasis on places that are usually compromised with.

THE “RIGHT” ANGLE

The next aspect is the right space and angle you use in your home. Orthogonal shapes are preferred instead of round or curvy as they give an edgy and a smart look to your home. Furniture with edges gives a more futuristic look than curvy, round furniture.

MATERIALS

Use of wood, glass and mirrors is extensive in futuristic style. Marble and granite are used in shelves, bathroom floors, and false walls and dividers. Mahogany and white wood are primarily used in furniture.

Grey, white and lighter wood grains are highly popular.

THE HOME DECOR

Include your little things in your home to make it futuristic, some indoor plants, a rock-cut sculpture, or a bunch of white lilies, can always complete the look.

These trends are a result of social evolution where spaces are merging into one another and people are more open than they were ever before.

HOW TO CHOOSE A DESIGN STYLE FOR YOUR HOME

WHAT SUITS YOUR PERSONALITY: PAST OR PRESENT?

So do you play safe or have that adrenaline pumping inside you that tells you to risk? As you might want to stick to a more neutral style that is easy to look at for a long period if you are not up for the risk. Going big and bold can pay off only when you are willing to make it happen.

LOOK INTO YOUR WARDROBE: WHAT COLORS YOU LIKE?

Your wardrobe tells your story. The colors and texture reflect you and your style.  So take a close look at your wardrobe and analyze the colors and textures. Can you find just blues and greys? If so, then these may be the colors you’d look for in your décor, or if you like bold and chunky knits, that’s a clue as to what texture you should seek out to in your home textiles.

GET INSPIRED

Next, gather inspiration from outside.  You can scroll through home decor websites or pages. Or create a board on Pinterest with spaces you love. See if you can spot a trend, color scheme, or overall theme in your pins. Best is to look at home décor magazines and catalogs for some inspiration.

As your design style can change with time, don’t force yourself to stick with a look that’s no longer you! Always try to start fresh.

CREATE A VISUAL REMINDER OF WHAT YOU LIKE

Lastly, it is highly advisable to compile all the colors, patterns, and items you see and love altogether. It can help give you clarity regarding the style you are looking for.

The selection may be easy but implementing it in the right manner takes a lot of effort. So, it is advised to hire a professional who can design your home as per your needs.  And at Gouri Ekmeet Designs we provide self-prepared and customer optimized designs to fulfill your design needs.

CONCLUSION

Always remember when it comes to expressing your style in your own home there is nothing right or wrong. So don’t be scared of experimenting until you land in someplace safe.

This whole new experience of creating your style to suit your personality will help you discover your inner self that will pave the way to courage and creativity. Finally, when you reach that point, don’t let anyone else talk you out of it!

With this, it’s a wrap! And the next time you plan on deciding a style for your home, take a cue from this!
